Physical Education

As an active school Banksia Park provides an extensive Physical Education (PE) program for all children as outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum. Physical Education at our school encompasses a range of opportunities for getting active including a weekly lesson with a specialist teacher, middle and upper year level sport sessions, fitness, dance, interm swimming lessons, sporting carnivals, interschool sports and activity incursions such as Edu-Dance and yoga. Students learn about the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. All students are involved in a minimum of two hours of physical activity each week.

Interm Swimming

Each year all children from Pre-primary to Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a two week interm swimming program.  Find out more

Edu-Dance

Edu-Dance is a dance fitness program designed for primary school students. It provides children with the opportunity to be part of a fun and active dance program at school culminating in a whole school performance. The program covers many other aspects such as coordination, musical movement, self-confidence and gives students the opportunity to experience the excitement of performing in front of an audience. Most importantly it is a program for fitness and fun.

Faction Sports

At various times during the year, students all have the opportunity to participate in the following sporting carnival events.

  • Faction Swimming  (Years 3 – 6)
  • Faction Athletics (Kindergarten – Year 6)
  • Faction Cross Country  (Years 3 – 6)

Interschool Sports

Throughout the year, the students in years 3 to 6 compete against other schools in the surrounding suburbs in Interschool Sports. During Term 1, children participate in the interschool swimming carnival. In Term 2, students are chosen to participate in the interschool winter sports competitions – Netball, AFL, Soccer and Hockey. During Term 3, the children are involved in Cross Country and Athletics events.

Our school’s Physical Education Program aims to provide students with the opportunity to learn a range of fundamental and applied movement skills. These support students to be able to participate successfully in a variety of physical activities encouraging positive attitudes to health and lifelong physical activity participation.

Factions

Our factions are Red, Green, Blue and Gold. Your child will be placed in a faction on enrolment. Families will be grouped in the same faction and will remain in this faction while at Banksia Park.

Students are encouraged to wear their faction shirts for Physical Education lessons and during afternoon sport lessons.

These factions are linked to our wider student engagement program. Bonus points for factions can be awarded throughout the year to students who display positive behaviour, demonstrate our school values and achieve good results as part of the overall teaching and learning program.
