Be You
Be You is the National Mental Health in Education initiative delivered by Beyond Blue, in collaboration with Early Childhood Australia and Headspace. Be You supports educators and schools to develop a positive, inclusive and resilient learning community where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health.
The Be You Initiative is an on-going commitment at Banksia Park Primary, as a whole school focus, to assist in the students’ mental health and wellbeing. The Be You principles are embedded in the school through our SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) programs.

Zones of Regulation
Zones of Regulation is a social emotional learning framework currently being used at Banksia Park to assist students to develop an awareness of their feelings, energy and alertness levels. The simple, common language and visual structure of the Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for learners and those who support them. Once we understand our feelings and zones, we can learn to use tools and strategies to better manage our different ‘zones’ in order to meet goals like doing schoolwork or completing other tasks, manage big feelings, and learn positive social skills fostering healthy relationships with others.
It gives us an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and teaches students to recognise and sort these feelings into four coloured ‘zones’, all of which are normal and expected in life. This program is designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control and uses a variety of tools and strategies teach students regulation, social skills, self-care, and overall wellness.
Chaplaincy Services
A Chaplaincy Service is provided through YouthCARE for students at Banksia Park Primary School. This valuable service to students is largely funded by the Department of Education School Chaplaincy Program with the remaining costs met by Banksia Park Primary School.
Our School Chaplain, Louise Lathbury, is appointed for two days a week. Student support through the Chaplaincy service is provided on a needs basis for all students. Requests for support may come from staff, parents or students. Permission for students to access the school Chaplain is acknowledged on enrolment. This may be withdrawn at any time by writing to the school.
